  • A calf is born without immunity, an immature digestive system and low energy reserves. Directly after birth a calf is challenged by all sorts of pathogens.
  • Poor quality colostrum - good dry cow management, for optimal quality and quantity colostrum.
  • Ensure this high quality colostrum is available 2-6 hours after calving.

The 5 keys to ensuring a healthy start for your calves:

  • Quality

    • Ensure IgG level in colostrum is > 50g/l, causing a blood IgG level of 15g/1.

  • Quantity

    • 4 litres

  • Quickly

    • Within 1 to 2 hours of birth feed maternal colostrum or IMMUCOL® PURE.

  • Quietly

    • Minimise stress to ensure efficient absorption of protective antibodies.

  • Cleanliness

    • Make sure colostrum has a bacterial count of < 100,000 cfu/ml TPC and faecal coliform level below 10,000 cfu/ml.
